Seeking a suitable lady
Hello. I am seeking a suitable lady with whom to spend most of my time in the future. The most important thing is that we must be able to get on well together, and this can only be found out with absolute certainty by direct contact, so I do not specify any particular hobbies and interests as either good or bad, and leave as many characteristics open as possible, since few particular hobbies or characteristics necessarily lead to getting on well or badly by themselves. I list some hobbies and interests elsewhere but these are in outline only and there will be others not listed. If you are curious about anything not listed, please ask and further information can be provided if there is anything else to tell.

In summary I look for a lady who is interesting, pleasant, and good company. Beyond these very simple things which appear to be so difficult to find, I make few stipulations and wait and see what else goes with the above things. I will provide answers to questions which may shed light directly or indirectly on this matter and reveal more about myself and the individual I seek.

In return, for the special lady described briefly above, I will attempt to offer what I can to make any suitable relationship a success.

I am solvent and have a steady job with a respectable firm of accountants near the City, a job which I have held down for many years. I pursue (I am told) a respectable career and have pursued it to the best of my ability. I endeavour to be as straightforward as modern business allows in my dealings, so far as this is possible.

I am not aware of anything adverse in my record which I have not made available in one or more of my answers which I have provided. If you find questions which are not addressed, and which are crucial to deciding whether or not a match is suitable, I will attempt to answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability as soon as I am able to do so.

Occupation:
Often when people think of an accountant they assume either the tax agent with an adding machine and pencil or a frightening auditor with a green pen. While I have done both of these in the past, I have specialized in forensic cases, but retaining some audit cases and other work. I have also worked for a time at the University while I studied there.
Education:
I have taken three Accountancy qualifications, in reverse order, Chartered Accountancy, Bachelor of Business (Honours), and the Associate Diploma in Business (Accounting). These were done purely for vocational reasons and although useful for this, they have not been useful for anything else.
Heritage:
Fuller details of my ancestry can be provided, although it is a long lecture (and better left until later) as it goes far back into time and my ancestors are many and varied. So far none give cause for concern but the research begun long ago is not yet complete.
Religion:
This may be better discussed later when I know you a little better.
Politics:
I do not provide active support for any one particular party. Instead, I believe it is better to decide which side to support or oppose on an issue by issue basis.
Appearance:
I consider the lack of a partner as a serious disability for which I am seeking a cure here! I am not aware of any other disabilities to mention here.
Languages Spoken:
Whatever could be tried with other languages (apart from English "as she is spoke") has already been tried and to no avail. I can identify a word here and there of some languages but to understand what the fuss is about I find that a translation is generally necessary.
Musical Instruments played:
As I was once told by an expert older and wiser than me, the only musical instruments I can play tolerably well are the "wireless" and the "gramophone". One of these gets switched on and the other is a wind up.
Music Enjoyed:
I listen to a range of music, limited only by the power of my radio set and the length of the antenna. I have listened to classical music and jazz from time to time together with whatever else I can find on the radio.
Sports and exercise:
My main sport involves moving pieces of paper of varying sizes around desks of varying sizes. I tried skiing once many years ago and was not bad at it but I find there are no decent mountains in London so I have not tried it again.
Interests and activities:
My interests include (but are not limited to) antiques, art (not modern), Collecting (various), eating out, history (mainly English and ancient), and reading. Of course my main interest could become a suitable lady, if she is out there!
Animals and Pets:
I do not currently have any pets as I live in a flat and they would probably be climbing the walls after a week (not good for the paintwork). Also, I am sometimes away for work for a day or two and the pets would be very thin and angry if I left them for too long.
Newspapers and magazines:
Broadsheet pages are rather too difficult to handle without a desk and airmail editions on thin paper are too fragile for the train. Hence I would read the book or small paper on the train and keep the others for my destination.
Books:
For a holiday a book with short chapters is neeeded, as it can be picked up and put down quickly. For this purpose many authors are good, so long as the chapters are short. Examples of authors who I have found to meet these criteria from time to time are H.G. Wells, M. de Voltaire, W.M. Thackeray, B. Disraeli, S Leacock (a Canadian author), &c &c.
Favourite Films:
I have tended to prefer comedies of many sorts and by many different actors. No one film stands out but comedy as a type of film does. I also enjoyed some of the early Hitchcock films, although I seldom enjoy "thrillers" by other directors. However I am unlikely to watch a show near a log fire as a log fire at my local cinema would indicate that the place is burning down.
Enjoyable evening out:
A pleasant meal either before or after the cinema (assuming a decent film and a decent restaurant) would probably be the most likely choice. The location is important as the restaurant should ideally be a short walk from the cinema, hence places such as Richmond or Muswell Hill (or similar elsewhere) may present themselves as suitable choices.
Favourite Dishes:
The most likely dishes are curry (usually spicy), pizza (always with some type of meat or salami), chinese or steak. Where offered, cake is also likely, particularly if it is a rich chocolate cake. Strawberries and ice cream could also be suitable during the very short strawberry season.
Ideal Holiday:
Possibly a few days in Cornwall or Devonshire would make a pleasant few days away. I lived (and worked) abroad for a considerable number of years, so overseas no longer seems greener than it may otherwise do. I did have a travel bug but the Tube and British Rail have both done (and continue to do) their bit to try and cure it!
In another life:
I will let you know after I come back and try some of these!
Personality:
I have been seen as confident, humorous, fairly intellectual, honest and thorough in business dealings, and various other things by those with whom I have had dealings. However many of those who made these observations did not know me well, as few have known me well so they are (at best) a guide only.
